Founding Brothers by Joseph J. Ellis

The Founding brothers of our nation being Hamilton, Burr, Jefferspm,Franklin, Washington, Adams and Madison they all made it through challenges that made our nation the way it is today. This would make them heros. Founding Brothers shows the leadership that this country has. The founding brothers of this country would be the heros and also the leaders. Being a part of this nation shows that everyone believes in what these people did for this counrty. The historical part of this book shows that there are many events in this countries history that show we have leaders.

These people that are the "Founding Brothers" of this nation show the quilties of being leaders. Thats what brought this country to where it is. During the book there was a part about the Quaker delegation they petitioned the House of Representatives to end the African save trade immediately. This was showing the leadership that we have. Another time where these "brothers" showed there leadership, was when Geroge Washington decided he wasn't going to run again for president. Benjamin Franklin stood up and helped with everything that was going on. Also the leadership showed up again during Geroge Washington's second term as president. The significance of this theme of leadership in this book is to show that our country has founding brothers, everything didn't just appear out of no where.

The events that happened in Founding Brothers are the events that lead us to today in this nation. The Founding brothers showed things through them being the president at a certian time. Things that they did were like After Jeffersons daughter died he took the letter that she left for her family and made it into something that he could forgive himself for. Also after eveything that Geroge Washington did for the country he didn't run again for president. He thought that it would be better for someone else to take over and try to make an even bigger impact. Being a leader in all of these situations was a big deal for these people, it wasn't easy. Proving that they could do it they made everything that we have today possible.

The relationship between the leadership and what people thought about this wasn't hard to see in founding brothers. Everyone thought that these people did good at what they were doing. Like Geroge Washington show how he could lead this country into a big nation that would do very well in the world. People didn't realize this at the time but after reading the book you can see what they did for us.
The significance of the perspective in this book shows the theme really well the leaders were the leaders then and they still are now.

These people like Geroge Washington and Thomas Jefferson are the figures of this natons. The leaders of this nation. This theme has been know throughout history. Being a leader is something people do everyday. The leaders in this book were the leaders than and they still are today. The Important thing about this theme is a everyday person could be a leader, it doesn't have to be a really smart person.

 American Empire

Theodore Roosevelt wrote to a friend in the year 1897: "In strict confidence . . . I should welcome almost any war, for I think this country needs one."....

There was heated argument in the United States about whether or not to take the Philippines. As one story has it, President McKinley told a group of ministers visiting the White House how he came to his decision:
Before you go I would like to say just a word about the Philippine business. . . . The truth is I didn't want the Philippines, and when they came to us as a gift from the gods, I did not know what to do with them. . . . I sought counsel from all sides -- Democrats as well as Republicans -- but got little help.  It is really unbelieveable that the president wouldn't want more land for his country. Most countries would take as much as they could get. Instead he goes to god to tell him what to do.. Most people would just take the land without even thinking about it. -Batchelder3232 5/7/09 1:48 PM yeah that would be pretty crazy. You would think that he would want more. -Nicole Pedone 5/8/09 9:17 AM
I thought first we would only take Manila; then Luzon, then other islands, perhaps, also.
I walked the floor of the White House night after night until midnight; and I am not ashamed to tell you, gentlemen, that I went down on my knees and prayed Almighty God for light and guidance more than one night. And one night late it came to me this way -- I don't know how it was, but it came:
       1) That we could not give them back to Spain -- that would be cowardly and dishonorable.
       2) That we could not turn them over to France or Germany, our commercial rivals in the Orient -- that would be bad business and discreditable.
       3) That we could not leave them to themselves -- they were unfit for self-government -- and they would soon have anarchy and misrule over there worse than Spain's was; and
       4) That there was nothing left for us to do but to take them all and to educate the Filipinos, and uplift and civilize and Christianize them, and by God's grace do the very best we could by them, as our fellow men for whom Christ also died. And then I went to bed and went to sleep and slept soundly.
The Filipinos did not get the same message from God. In February 1899, they rose in revolt against American rule, as they had rebelled several times against the Spanish. Emilio Aguinaldo, a Filipino leader, who had earlier been brought back from China by U.S. warships to lead soldiers against Spain, now became leader of the insurrectos fighting the United States. He proposed Filipino independence within a U.S. protectorate, but this was rejected.
It took the United States three years to crush the rebellion, using seventy thousand troops -- four times as many as were landed in Cuba -- and thousands of battle casualties, many times more than in Cuba. It was a harsh war. For the Filipinos the death rate was enormous from battle casualties and from disease.
The taste of empire was on the lips of politicians and business interests throughout the country now. Racism, paternalism, and talk of money mingled with talk of destiny and civilization. In the Senate, Albert Beveridge spoke, January 9, 1900, for the dominant economic and political interests of the country:
Mr. President, the times call for candor. The Philippines are ours forever. . . . And just beyond the Philippines are China's illimitable markets. We will not retreat from either. . . . We will not renounce our part in the mission of our race, trustee, under God, of the civilization of the world. . . .
The Pacific is our ocean. . . . Where shall we turn for consumers of our surplus? Geography answers the question. China is our natural customer. . . . The Philippines give us a base at the door of all the East. . . .
No land in America surpasses in fertility the plains and valleys of Luzon. Rice and coffee, sugar and cocoanuts, hemp and tobacco. . . . The wood of the Philippines can supply the furniture of the world for a century to come. At Cebu the best informed man on the island told me that 40 miles of Cebu's mountain chain are practically mountains of coal. . . .
I have a nugget of pure gold picked up in its present form on the banks of a Philippine creek. . . .
My own belief is that there are not 100 men among them who comprehend what Anglo-Saxon self-government even means, and there are over 5,000,000 people to be governed.
It has been charged that our conduct of the war has been cruel. Senators, it has been the reverse. . . . Senators must remember that we are not dealing with Americans or Europeans. We are dealing with Orientals.
The fighting with the rebels began, McKinley said, when the insurgents attacked American forces. But later, American soldiers testified that the United States had fired the first shot. After the war, an army officer speaking in Boston's Faneuil Hall said his colonel had given him orders to provoke a conflict with the insurgents.
In February 1899, a banquet took place in Boston to celebrate the Senate's ratification of the peace treaty with Spain. President McKinley himself had been invited by the wealthy textile manufacturer W. B. Plunkett to speak. It was the biggest banquet in the nation's history: two thousand diners, four hundred waiters. McKinley said that "no imperial designs lurk in the American mind," and at the same banquet, to the same diners, his Postmaster General, Charles Emory Smith, said that "what we want is a market for our surplus."
William James, the Harvard philosopher, wrote a letter to the Boston Transcript about "the cold pot grease of McKinley's cant at the recent Boston banquet" and said the Philippine operation "reeked of the infernal adroitness of the great department store, which has reached perfect expertness in the art of killing silently, and with no public squalling or commotion, the neighboring small concerns."
James was part of a movement of prominent American businessmen, politicians, and intellectuals who formed the Anti-Imperialist League in 1898 and carried on a long campaign to educate the American public about the horrors of the Philippine war and the evils of imperialism. It was an odd group (Andrew Carnegie belonged), including antilabor aristocrats and scholars, united in a common moral outrage at what was being done to the Filipinos in the name of freedom. Whatever their differences on other matters, they would all agree with William James's angry statement: "God damn the U.S. for its vile conduct in the Philippine Isles."
The Anti-Imperialist League published the letters of soldiers doing duty in the Philippines. A captain from Kansas wrote: "Caloocan was supposed to contain 17,000 inhabitants. The Twentieth Kansas swept through it, and now Caloocan contains not one living native." A private from the same outfit said he had "with my own hand set fire to over fifty houses of Filipinos after the victory at Caloocan. Women and children were wounded by our fire."
A volunteer from the state of Washington wrote: "Our fighting blood was up, and we all wanted to kill 'niggers.' . . . This shooting human beings beats rabbit hunting all to pieces."
It was a time of intense racism in the United States. In the years between 1889 and 1903, on the average, every week, two Negroes were lynched by mobs -- hanged, burned, mutilated. The Filipinos were brown-skinned, physically identifiable, strange-speaking and strange-looking to Americans. To the usual indiscriminate brutality of war was thus added the factor of racial hostility.
In November 1901, the Manila correspondent of the Philadelphia Ledger reported:
The present war is no bloodless, opera bouffe engagement; our men have been relentless, have killed to exterminate men, women, children, prisoners and captives, active insurgents and suspected people from lads of ten up, the idea prevailing that the Filipino as such was little better than a dog. . . . Our soldiers have pumped salt water into men to make them talk, and have taken prisoners people who held up their hands and peacefully surrendered, and an hour later, without an atom of evidence to show that they were even insurrectos, stood them on a bridge and shot them down one by one, to drop into the water below and float down, as examples to those who found their bullet-loaded corpses.   This is unbelieveable too, thinking arother person is a dog just because of the country they come from. That is a really bad way to think of someone. Also pumping slat water into a person to make them talk is discusting! And even shooting these inncent people when they have done nothing besides do that you told them to is also really messed up. -Batchelder3232 5/7/09 1:50 PM that is ridicilous. that is a way to judge someone by not even knowing who they were. -Nicole Pedone 5/8/09 9:17 AM
Early in 1901 an American general returning to the United States from southern Luzon, said:
One-sixth of the natives of Luzon have either been killed or have died of the dengue fever in the last few years. The loss of life by killing alone has been very great, but I think not one man has been slain except where his death has served the legitimate purposes of war. It has been necessary to adopt what in other countries would probably be thought harsh measures.
Secretary of War Elihu Root responded to the charges of brutality: "The war in the Philippines has been conducted by the American army with scrupulous regard for the rules of civilized warfare. . . . with self-restraint and with humanity never surpassed."
In Manila, a Marine named Littletown Waller, a major, was accused of shooting eleven defenseless Filipinos, without trial, on the island of Samar. Other marine officers described his testimony:
The major said that General Smith instructed him to kill and burn, and said that the more he killed and burned the better pleased he would be; that it was no time to take prisoners, and that he was to make Samar a howling wilderness. Major Waller asked General Smith to define the age limit for killing, and he replied "Everything over ten."
In the province of Batangas, the secretary of the province estimated that of the population of 300,000, one-third had been killed by combat, famine, or disease.
Mark Twain commented on the Philippine war:
We have pacified some thousands of the islanders and buried them; destroyed their fields; burned their villages, and turned their widows and orphans out-of-doors; furnished heartbreak by exile to some dozens of disagreeable patriots; subjugated the remaining ten millions by Benevolent Assimilation, which is the pious new name of the musket; we have acquired property in the three hundred concubines and other slaves of our business partner, the Sultan of Sulu, and hoisted our protecting flag over that swag.
And so, by these Providences of God -- and the phrase is the government's, not mine -- we are a World Power
.
American firepower was overwhelmingly superior to anything the Filipino rebels could put together. In the very first battle, Admiral Dewey steamed up the Pasig River and fired 500-pound shells into the Filipino trenches. Dead Filipinos were piled so high that the Americans used their bodies for breastworks.  Is this really discution, having Philipnos people pilled up dead and using that as a way to kill more. i wouldn't be able to do that. Having a dead person infront of me and killing more. Gross.  -Batchelder3232 5/7/09 1:45 PM I dont think that I would like that either. I would probably get sick -Nicole Pedone 5/8/09 9:18 AMA British witness said: "This is not war; it is simply massacre and murderous butchery." He was wrong; it was war.
For the rebels to hold out against such odds for years meant that they had the support of the population. General Arthur MacArthur, commander of the Filipino war, said: " . . . I believed that Aguinaldo's troops represented only a faction. I did not like to believe that the whole population of Luzon -- the native population, that is -- was opposed to us." But he said he was "reluctantly compelled" to believe this because the guerrilla tactics of the Filipino army "depended upon almost complete unity of action of the entire native population."

This hole conecpt of doing any of these things to any type of person is a unrealitic thing for this day and age. Thinking about someone doing this now is, it would never happen. I think that If you were a president you would take the land that was pretty much given to you. There are some really disterbing things that go on in the article. Losing all of these peope to a war that is going to mean nothing in 50 years is unbelieveable to me. It's something that isn't really worth fighting for.  -Batchelder3232 5/7/09 1:53 PM

Weekly Reflections

3/2-3/09
I was only here for one out of three of the classes. Which was the class that we talked about the 1920's. We talked about child labor and Evolution and Religion. I think that the class that i was there for this week wasn't very exciting. All we did was get a leture about the 1920's. I didn't think it was that good of a class.

3/9-13/09
All three classes this week we talked about World War II. Talked about different dates during World War II & also peral harbor was a big topic. These classes were more intersting than the past weeks, because of the Peral harbor video. Over all it was a alright week, and i think i got stuff out of it.

Flags of our Fathers

After reading the book Flags of our Fathers by James Bradley, it's not very hard to realize that this book is a symbolic towards the United States history. Flags of our Fathers takes place during World War II these men that are so symbolic in the story are marines that are fighting in Jima Japan which is a very violent battle. The thing that these six men learn is the roles of leaders. It's hard for them to go back to there home country an fill the roles of hero's. This is a very big part of the United States history, this one symbolic picture of these men end up being a very big symbol toward the history of the United States. Looking at what these men did for this country, it's a pretty big thing. They ended up being leaders to people they didn't even know. It is a very big part of the United States history.

There ended up being three survivors out of the six that raised the flag on top of Mount Suribachi, they brought the three survivors back to the United States to raise funds for war. This was bringing hope to people of the United States after just coming out of a Great Depression. This was making them have a very big hero status to the people of this country. After awhile they started having problems with each other over the hero status. It was hard for them to keep up with the status that they were given. This wasn't there choice to be the hero's that everyone looked up to after the Great Depression. Having to stick out being a hero and be a role model for the United States was something they had to work for, in the end it made them better people.

To always be the hero and never the bad person in the situation is hard for some people. During this book they show how hard it really is to become hero's and to stay hero's. The image of a hero was big at this time. They were just coming out of the Great Depression and it was something that they needed at the time. Always be the hero, not the bad guy was a mod they needed to stand by at the time. Being hero's of this time was something very hard to do, in the end they proved that they could handle it and that the United States did really need them to stand up and take the role of the hero.

Flags of our fathers give you a very different perspective on what the United States was like back during the Depression. This book shows how different things really were, and how badly they needed something to pull them out of this slump. Most people thought of these men as hero's. They were a big part of the recovery of the United States after the Great Depression. These men proved that there was a way, even though it was hard for them. They proved that there was a way. If you were a outsider looking in on this situation, you probably would of said the same thing. The United States need a image of a hero for everyone to look up to. These men proved that it was what they needed.

This picture of these men posting the flag brought hope to the United States. It also showed that this is a major part of the United States history, this picture will be displayed and shown for a very long time. Also this book was easy at showing what the United States needed at the time. This was a very important even in the United States history or even all together. It was something that the States needed to fix things.

Essays

1.
Ronald Reagan was called the president "who ended the cold war" because he was the one in office when it ended. He got credited for this event because of that. This is significant because this made Reagan look like a really good president. He got reelected for his second term which was close to when the Cold War ended. He was credited for this being the biggest significant thing that he had done, it made him widely liked throughout the country. Sense all of this happened during Ronald Reagan's presidency he was credited with the defeat of the Soviet Union, this was a big step for the United States. Ronald Reagan got together some type of plan that would make the Soviet Union to back out, and that would end the war. The Soviet Union thought that this would put the entire world in jeopardy.

2.
One of the biggest president scandals happened in 1974, which included president Nixon. It all went down right before he got into his second term. He sent men into spy on the campaign of the other candidate. Which ended up back firing on him in the end, he ended up leaving office instead of getting impeached. This is important in U.S. history because he never really got in trouble for this. People thought that him leaving the office was enough of a punishment.

Another big president scandal was with president Clinton, when he had a affair during his presidency. He never really got in trouble for his it was really the only thing that happened during this time. Which made it seem bigger than it really was. He talked his way out of it ended up getting out of all of it.

These two scandals are different by how President Nixon got pardon so that he wouldn't get in any trouble for his mistake. When president Clinton didn't really do anything by law that was wrong, he only lied about having the affair.

3.
-During the watergate event, when the men broke into Democratic campaign headquarters they got ignored by all of the press and everyone to do with the news. Later to find out that they were sent there by president Nixon. This was something that people didn't know at the time, but later found out that it was a plan of Nixon. Now this event is view by people the mind of people hasn't really changed. Most people of this time either thought Nixon should of been taken to jail for his actions, or he got off with a big enough punishment of droping out of office.

Malaise and Carter

(yellow)what the real threat to America is, according to Carter, and is that threat still with us today?

--The Problem is much deeper than gasoline lines or energy shortages its more than inflation. This is a moral and a spiritual crisis. There are problems like importing oil that is inflated, we are using more than we have for energy. The biggest problem american is facing is fundamental threats to americas democracy. This problem is a problem of confidence in the United States. This is a problem that the united states is dealing with on very large terms, this is a whole nations type thing. The confidence of this nation is gone down very low, people here don't believe in there country they don't believe that the governemnt is doing all that they can for them. It's a problem that has existed sence there has been a democracy in the United States. This lowering in confidence is a social and the political fabric of America.

(red)summarizing what Carter is saying about American society, and analyzing America today against his critique.

--Cater is saying the the American society is consuming material things thinking that they are going to help them find meaning to there life. This country is not about what someone does, its about what they own. This buying of goods doesn't change how we as a country have no confidence. Cater also says that the future is going to be worse than the past, people of this country are not saving for the future they are just doing what they want to do. 2/3 of the United States weren't even voting at this time. He also says that there is a going disrespect for schools, churchs, the news and alot of other things. This isn't much different than what is going on now, there isn't as many people that arnt voting but there is still disrespect for things like churchs and school. Most people discriminate againist things that they do not do. This is a problem now as it was during the time that Cater was president.

(green)How do the plans differ, and how are they alike? How do their plans reveal what they think the problem really is?

--Cater said that the nation wasn't going to use more oil than it did in 1977, he wants to be able to produce what this country needs for oil instead of depending on other countries for it. He wanted to stop foreign oil depencany right in its tracks, he wanted to cut it in half so that they could make it through the 80's. This would save 4 1/2 million dollars.
Obama said he wanted to provide short-term relief to American families facing pain at the pump, Within 10 years save more oil than we currently import from the Middle East, Put 1 million Plug-In Hybrid cars can get up to 150 miles per gallon on the road by 2015, built here in America.
The problem is that we use to much foreign oil and also that we depend on other countries way to much for things that we should be able to produce here in the United States.

Nixon Research

How is Richard Nixon is such a hated person now, when he won his second election by a land slide?

During Richard Nixon second presidency he did things that the country didn't like, things like price controls of foods. This was something that wasn't favored by the people or business people. He also tried to control the prices and amount of oils and natural gases, and he also increased he pay of federal employee. These are some of the events leading up to the people of this country hating Richard Nixon. The biggest thing that went on that made this country hate Richard Nixon was Watergate. This was a misson set up by the president Richard Nixon, he had 5 people go undercover and break into a hotel in Washington D.C. which just happened to be the Democratic Campaign Headquarters. After Richard realized he was going to get impeached, Nixon announced his Resignation. The reason for Nixon winning this election by so much and than ending up being the most hated president, it as the little events like the rise of food cost, oil, gas and the pay of federal employees. And the Largest part of this happening of people hating him is Watergate.

LBJ Law Review

Public Broadcasting Act of 1967

This act set up public broadcasting in the United States in 1967, and also the the corporation for public broadcasting. And after that there were PBS and NPR. Lyndon B. Johnson was the one to signed the act into law on November 7, 1967. He told about the purpose of it. This law was about how our nation wants more than material wealth, we want more than a "chicken in every pot". American wants more than anything to enrich man's sprit. That was the biggest part of this act.
This is going to give a stronger and wider voice to television and radio, this act would give new funds for broadcasting. Let the television be used more widely in classrooms. And it would also build new institutions like corporation of public broadcasting.

This was a very good thing for the nation, it would make public broadcasting more widely used. Its something that would help the nation. It would also make classroom activities more interesting to students. This was one of the best decisions that the legislation has made. Giving more information out to the nation was a very good idea.

Exam 3

#1.
During the 50's and 60's there wasn't very much technology around. The most technology they had was video cameras. There video camera took a very big part in the 1960's, this video camera caught the shooting of John F. Kennedy. This changed history by having the video of that day. Without the guy that taped this and him having this camera, there wouldn't be proof of this seen. Which makes it a large part of the changing in technology during this time. Also there have been more events in history that have proven that technology has a very big part in our history. As in the hanging of Saddam Hussain. This was another turning point in the history of technology, having a cell phone that could video tape the seen of Saddam Hussain. Unlike the iraq governoment, this tape has sounds showing what they were saying to Saddam Hussain, the goverment wanted it to look like it was just a easy and fast killing and had nothing to do with names calling. Which the technology of the cell phone proved that this wasn't the way that it all went down.

#2
Martin Luther King was one of the major civil rights leaders of his time. Martin Luther King was a inspirational speaker, he spoke about how blacks should have there rights. and also how badly they were treated. He was the type of leader that made all types of people understand where he was coming from. Martin Luther King was a very big leader by his speeches. He is still known for the words he spoke years ago. Huey Newton was a co-founder and leader of the black panthers. This was a african american organization established to promote Black Power, civil rights and self-defense. He was a very violinet person, but he lead by example, being the co-founder of the black panther, and leading this he was more of a action tpye of leader. The goal of the Soviet Union was spread world-wide Communism, there was a iron curtian in place between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet Union wanted nothing to do with the United states, just because they weren't communest. The two different political systems of the two different countries prevented them from reaching a agreement, and settling things between them.

Letter

Dear,
I understand what happened the day of John F. Kennedy muder. John Kennedy was assassined November 22, 1963 at 12:30 p.m in Dallas, Texas. John Kennedy was 45 years old at the time of his death. He was shot 3 times, by Harvey Oswald. He was the lone gunmen, shot twice in the head and in the neck. There were three total shots in under 9 seconds.

I didn't really think that there was only one shooter. It is really hard to believe that Harvey Oswald was the only shooter in this sisuation. Is there real proof that there was only one gunmen? And Was it really that big of a deal to shoot a president just because he was well liked? Would there of been a different outcome in those years of presidence if Jonh Kennedy wasn't shot.

I want to know was this expericence moving, did it bother you personaly? This was something that effected out country, and i was wondering if it affected alot of people or was it just blowen over. I think that the theroy of the lone gunmen is imposible, just because of three shots gone off in 9 seconds. That's not really believeable that one person did that. Also, more than this one man had to of known what was going to happen. Harvey Oswald had to of told someone in his planning of this.

There isn't much of a differnce between this muder and the presiency now. With Barack Obama as our new president, and john kennedy as the president than there are many things that are the same. The thought of assassintion now is a very big thought. This is just like John F. Kenndey presidency he was well liked, but Barack Obama would get assassined because of being well liked it would be more of a reason that hes black, not well liked.

Book Portfolio

The Art of the Lathe was written by B.h. Fairchild, It's the kind of book you don't want to put down its good. The Art of the Lathe was a book full of poems, which were about factory life, the good and bad things that happen. This book shows you how there's always going to be bad and good in everything you do. Like working in a factory your hole life you would think that there wouldn't be anything good that comes out of it. In the Art of the Lathe there are many things shown that are good. The historical part of this book connects back to the days where everything was made with factories and everyone depened on them for everything. In this book it talks about different peoples expericences with of factories. There are alot of things from this book that would give you a perspective on different things. There are alot of things talked about.

This book has alot to do with the historcal events during the days where everyone worked in factories, and when they made very little money for doing so. From one of the poems in the book which was called smoking, it talked about when they'd go out and smoke and how it was such a popular thing that was done. Everyone during this time was a smoker because they didn't know how bad it was for you. Most of the book focus on the work of the middle class. Things like machine shops and oil fields of rural Kansas. The Art of the Lathe's main focus was on teaching about how different life use to be and showing how that in any life time there are always means for living your life. These people in the Art of the Lathe didn't have much to live for, but they showed how one little thing could help them get through a bad time.

Having diffculties when living wasn't something that people of this century just came upon. This is something that has been going on for a very long time. Having a hard life is something that people from all generations have had to deal with, like during this book everyone had something they had to work through. The Art of the Lathe teaches alot of thing, one being that hardship is a very hard thing to deal with, everyone has to deal with it and it's been around for ever. The poems from the Art of the Lathe really how the hardsips, like in the poem Hitchcock it shows how living in all of these new places can be hard but it can always get better. No matter what century you live it there's always going to be something you'll have to deal with thats hard to do.

When reading this book it makes you think about the different things you have gone through, like how people have help you through hard times. Like in this book pretty much everything they did was a hard time just because of the day and age they were living in. Most of the peoms wouldn't talk about this directly, it would be shown by the way the people were acting towards things that they had to do.

The Art of the Lathe was a book full of poems, about factory life the good and bad things that went on. The history of the book came in when it was shown that everyone and everything was in the olden days. It was easy to tell what day and age they were in, just because of some of the things they did. Having a hard time with life in general is something everyone has to go through in this book it's a little more to deal with sence this is there hole life. The importance of realizing that hardship is something that you can grow from is a big thing. When reading this book you can tell that these people had no hope. Having hope and knowing that theres going to be an end to the bad, is the best thing to think about.

Space Race

We engaged in this space race so that we could orbit the Earth and find out new things. We wanted to be the frist on the moon. The United States wanted to not just be the frist at this, they wanted to be the only ones that went to the moon. We wanted to do something that was not easy something that was hard. This was a waste of time and a waste of money. We could of used the mosey that we used on something else that was more important. This was pointless and I think that it could of been done differently. We didn't have to go to the moon it was a waste of time and money.

The next thing that we should focus on is getting our country out of debt. This is something way more important because that's something that we need to do. We're spending our money on going to the moon that isn't even that important. When people just wanted to see it and see what it was like, this money could of saved things like health carem, and alot of other things that are not very good. We should spend our money on importantness, not on something that people want to look at and see what its like. We should concentrate on the more important things, not the foolish things.

Exam #2

The War on terror started BoldSeptember 11, 2001 with the attack on the United States. This was an attack that Afghanistan and iraq bombed the twin towers, pentagon, and atamped to bomb the white house, but ended up hitting a feild in Vigrina. After this happened, president Bush took charge, he said that the United States will hunt down and punish the people responseable for this event. Osama bin Laden was the one in charge of this event and invloved in this entire thing. The bombers were men that trained in a air plane school in Florida, that tought them how do get control and fly a plane. There were alot of people missing and alot of people dead cause of this event. The United states wanted to show that they weren't going to allow this to happen, and that they are tough. There are two ways this could of gone, either President Bush could of either declaired War on Iraq or they could of not. President Bush declaried war on Iraq and not long after there were American troops in these counrties.

There are many things said that are the reason that they have attacked the United States. There were things said like they thought that the freedom of the United States were not right, they thought that the we should be musilum like them. There were other things said like they attacked us because we wanted the oil that they had.

There are also reasons why we invated iraq. President Bush told the United States that there were wepaons of mass distration. That was the main reason that we went into iraq, the president told us that. Come to find out there were no wepaons of mass distration. We were going over to iraq to be in a war with them and try into slove there problems. This was a matter that we as the United States didn't need to get into. The United States shouldn't of gotten into anything with iraq, there were not real traces from the men that hay jacked the planes to the iraq people, yes they were from there but no one really knows if anyone in iraq was invloed in this.

Presidents
President Bill Clintion was the best president out of George H. W. Bush and Grorge W. Bush. There were many things that Bill Clintion did that shows he was a better president than either George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. Both of the Bush presidents were around for the war on tarrisom. They both were part of the war of tarrisom. Both of the George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush were connected to the war on tarrioms.

A year without "Made in China" written by Sara Bongiorni was a book teaching about how much good we sell in the USA that are manufactured by China. Sara Bongiorni learned from this experiment of only buying things from that were "Made in China" that most of the imports are coming from china, and as her being an American she wants to be able to buy things manufactured by her home country. This Book shows that the United States is taking in more goods than they are giving out, if China is over powering every other goods maker than how much longer will this go one. Or is China going to be the sole provider of goods to the United States. This is Showing the United States citizens that we are importing goods from other places, and also that we are giving away jobs that could be used in the United States for the people here, instead of just giving them up to the Chinese just because it's easier done. Sara Bongiorni learned from doing this, was that she couldn't go to certain stories because everything that they sold was china products, also she learned that most of the things that she normally buys are from China.

Most everything is manufactured by China, this is giving money, power and more jobs to them.
Why would the United States what to do this? Sara Goes around buying just "made in China", One example is she was looking for shoes for her son, his feet had out grown this old ones. She went out looking for these shoes and couldn't find any for over a week, everything she looked at was either "Made in China" or way to expense to buy for a really young kid. Sara Bongiorni still let things come in the house that were made from China as long as they were gifts, she let her husband have a pair of sunglasses that someone had given him. This would still be letting the money sent on something "made in China" come into there house. Giving more money out to China. Handing all of this money over to them is great for them, they pay there workers very little, and the rest is profit. Another thing that had happened to Sara was, she had puarched a Lamp out of a magazine when it said it was made from a country other than China, her thinking it was ok, she bought it after getting the lamp and looking it over, the lamp wasn't made my China but other parts that came with the lamp were. The significance of this from the book is that, our country is buying and selling alot of things that are made from china, this is giving out more jobs and more money out to the Chinese. Most people wouldn't think this is such a good things.

Somethings have always been manufactured in China, like Children's toys. But China has grown into a place where almost everything is being made. As the times have past most everything is being made there now. Even some United States company's have moved over seas. Before most everything moved over to China, there were more business in the United States, this has hurt our economy some by letting some of our jobs and money move to a different country. Things like this are hard to go through when someone here loses there job. Over the years China has grown from a very small country for manufacturing things to the top Country. This isn't a very good thing for the United States to let happen. This is giving money out that could be put into our economy. The more we buy from them the bigger there going to grown, and the smaller the United States is going to become as a exporting country. This is something most people don't realize, what they buy is effecting out country, the money that's being sent out of our country to be paid for these things they we all buy. The biggest part of this is that people don't even realize where the things that they buy come from, and more than anything they don't care.

My Option on this was it was a great experiment for someone to do, this shows that there are alot of things that can't be from made by another play than China. If you can't even find something like a simple pair of shoes that are not Chinese than how do you expect to buy something like a toy. This shows that there are to many things being just shipped over to China to be made, things that were being made here and just were given to China because they can make it for less money. China is going to sooner or later over power everyone else, and is going to control everything just because the United States and alot of other countries depend on them for the simplest things. I think that we shouldn't be just handing over our jobs to other countries, there is giving away jobs pretty much for free. My Perspective on this is that we should keep our jobs, our money and our independence, and be able to stay our own country.

Most everything is Manufactured by China, this is giving money, power and more jobs to them. Somethings have always been manufactured in China but as the time has past more and more things have been given to them just because they can make something cheaper. This is a major part in our economy, this shows that our country doesn't really care about who we give jobs money or power to. We just want it done the cheapest way. This is really important that people in this country realize these things, most people don't even know where they buy there daily items from. It's really hard to rebuild an economy when no one knows there's anything wrong.

Articles of Confederation

One of the big reasons that the Articles of Confederations failed, was because most people thought that the rules were making certain people above other people. There were some that thought that this was making the government the most powerful thing, and the people in it had all of the power kind of like the king did. And most moved from England just to get away for the rulers, which told them the only things that they could do.

After the Articles of Confederations had failed, the founding fathers held this big meeting called the Constitutional Convention which was in 1787. The major goal of this Convention was to find something that was going to work out for this country. They wanted to find another system of government that was going to work unlike the Articles of Confederation. Some of the states didn't want anything changed because they wanted to have as many rights of there own to decide on. This was one of the major obstacles that they had to make it through.

During this Convention they decided to add to the Articles of Confederation, this was going to be another system of government added on to the Articles of Confederation. This Consisted of a lot more rights and ways that the government was going to work, as in the way the system would work how everything between the brunches would be equal with not one being more powerful then another.

George Washington

At the time of George Washington becoming a president, there weren't any type of political parties. He was elected without being apart of a political party, and without having any in place. This ment that there was only one choice for president, he wasn't like everyother president we have had in this country. George Washington had a big part of the starting of the political parties, concitering he was the frist president of the United States. George Washington also believed that the political parties did not best serve the people's interests.

After is preidencey of George Washington there were two parties developed, the Federalists and Anti-Federalists. The Federalists believed in a strong government ruled by wealthy eduacted people. George Washingotn was in favor of the Federalists parties. The Anti Federalists were people who believed in not ratifying the Articles of Confederation and were not in favor of the same ideas as the Federalists, they didn't want weathly people controling the goverment. They wanted people that weren't going to take over. They thought that the Federalists had alot more power. Alexander Hamilton was the leader of the Federalist party, and Thomas Jefferson was the leader of the Anti- Federalist party.

Branches.

After the Articles of Confederations were changed, there goverment was formed into a three branch system, this would make it so that the one branch of the goverment couldn't over through and other part. So that every branch was equal in different ways. They made a congress made up of the senate and house of representives. The people of the house of representives would serve for 2 years, and be elevted by the people of the states. There should be 2 senators from each state, that should serve for 6 years, also have to be over the age of 30. The Legislative branch will have to Revenue Bills, Go through the process of having a bill pasted by the senat, but the president can alway veto the bill.

The Executive Branch is made up of the president and the vice president. Which both will have a term of 4 years, also have to be a born citizen of the United States to become the president. The president has civilian powers over the military, he also has his cabinet of people he has apointed. Also the president, vice president or any of this men may be Impeached for conviction of Treason.

The Judical Branch is made up of a supreme court, also some other courts. All judges get to hold there offices as long as there is good behavior. This means that as long as there are not convited of treason they will not be kicked out of office. These judges of the Supreme court and anyother court serve for life, unless convited of bad behaivor. Everyone is given a trial by jury, they are made there rights thought this branch. They also made it very had for someone to be convited of treason, saying that they would have to go to war if they were convited treason.
